The Flesch–Kincaid Readability Test
The Flesch Reading Ease score rates text from 0 to 100, where higher numbers are easier to read. It weighs average sentence length against the average number of syllables per word, so long sentences and complex vocabulary both push the score down. The Flesch–Kincaid Grade Level converts the same inputs into a U.S. school grade, telling you roughly how many years of education a reader needs.
For web and marketing copy, aim for a Reading Ease of 60 or above and a grade level around 8. That keeps your writing accessible to the widest audience without dumbing it down. If your scores fall short, shorten sentences and replace multi-syllable words with plainer alternatives.
